LOS ANGELES–A few Asian Pacific Islander (API) movies are being featured at this year’s Los Angeles OUTFEST Film Festival. One of those movies is a documentary by US native director Kathy Huang.

“Tales of the Waria” is Huang’s latest film following the lives of four waria women of Indonesia. On Huang’s website she comments on her film as “…comical and at times heartbreaking…” and she also adds, “…reveals our endless capacity as human beings to search for love — whatever the consequences.”

Among the movie’s accolades are official selections to San Francisco’s International Asian American Film Festival and Frameline’s San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival.

The movie has captured support from Asian Pacific Islander Pride Council (APIPC), a resource and advocacy organization consisting of API LGBTQ groups in Los Angeles. The movie in collaboration with APIPC will be hosting a reception and screening at REDCAT on 631 West 2nd Street, Downtown LA, Walt Disney Concert Hall.
