Barangay Los Angeles presents “Art as Advocacy,” a workshop and panel that features individuals from the LGBTQ Filipin@ community and The Malaya Project. Artists Greg Pacificar and Deney Tuazon will talk about the process of creating The Malaya Project and how they’ve used photo, video and the written word to share the stories of out and proud Filipino American LGBTQ individuals.

Panelists will share their stories that may include but is not limited to coming out, dealing with HIV, expressing oneself, acceptance, marriage and the significance of family. Our goal is to demonstrate the importance of sharing our personal stories with the greater Filipino community, our kapamilya, in order to create a basis for healthy discussion that fosters love, support and understanding.
