  • To engage other Filipinos facing the same issues and challenges
  • Provide an outlet of expression & acceptance
  • Foster enduring friendships
  • Opportunities to celebrate our culture
  • To be an advocate and a representative for the LGBTQ Filipino community
Description
For over 20 years this organization has brought together gay Filipinos throughout Los Angeles. This organization has not only been about bringing people together but also creating a safe space outside of their homes. There is much that we have accomplished and it is important to acknowledge all these achievements. For many, we have provided:

An extended family
A safe space
A chance to engage with other Filipinos facing the same issues and challenges
A space of acceptance and unspoken understanding
A place of reassurance, where we can celebrate both our differences and our similarities
A sense of community
An outlet of expression
Enduring friendships
A place where we can celebrate our culture
Ultimately we have provided a place where you can finally just be yourself. These are all accomplishments, which we should all feel proud of. There is much we have done. And it is because of this, I believe Barangay can administer more to benefit our organization as well as the community at large.

This year’s cycle of board members truly stand at the precipice of seeing historic events unfold. Community needs have grown dramatically in the past 20 years. Never before has the LGBTQ community been on the forefront both in the political and community arena. With issues centering around DADT, Marriage equality, immigration to school bullying, community members are waiting to hear our voices.

To carry forth Barangay’s longevity, we will continue honoring the signature events, which have long established the organization’s strong presence in the community. At the same token, we will give equal importance to our advocacy and partnerships by creating an additional committee. And by inviting all members to take part in the process, we will ensure the growth and follow through of Barangay’s mission.

Mission
Barangay LA is dedicated to providing a supportive environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning Filipinos; to meet and discuss concerns relevant to being Filipino and LGBTQ; to foster positive self-esteem; and to advocate on behalf of its members and the LGBTQ community of Los Angeles.
